PRP Pre-Care Instructions
- If you develop a fever, cold, flu, sores in the treated area, blemishes or rashes before your appointment, please reschedule.
- Schedule your treatment three weeks in advance if you have a special event or vacation coming up.
- Pre-treatment with antiviral medication is necessary if you have a history of Herpes (cold sores) with outbreaks more than twice a year in the lip area. Two grams of Valtrex® should be taken the day before or the morning of the treatment, followed by another two grams 12 hours later. Please let us know if you need a prescription if you do not have the medication on hand.
- Before your treatment, you should stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil®, Aleve®, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin®, Naprosyn, etc. These medications limit or prevent inflammation, which is one of the purposes of PRP. Acetaminophen-containing products such as Tylenol® may be taken as directed.
- To minimize bruising and bleeding, discontinue the use of any blood-thinning agents such as Vitamin A, Vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver, Essential Fatty Acids (EPA, DHA), etc., for at least one week before treatment.
- Within two weeks of treatment, you cannot undergo a treatment if you are on or have been on systemic corticosteroids (Prednisone, Methylprednisolone, etc.). Consult your provider before discontinuing the use of these medications.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin, spicy foods, and cigarettes 3 days before your treatment to reduce the risk of bleeding.
- Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day and maintain a healthy diet. of water the day before and the day of the treatment. It is important to be well hydrated, as you will be giving blood.

- You will feel slightly sunburned after the treatment. Most people's skin recovers within 24 to 72 hours. You will continue to see improvements over the next 4-8 weeks as your body produces collagen.
- Do not apply makeup to the treatment area for at least 24 hours after microneedling with PRP.
- Keep the area of treatment moisturized by using a gentle, non-scented” moisturizer. You can purchase this at your local drug store.
