Laser Facials Pre and Post Care
Laser Facials Pre-Care Instructions
- Sun Protection: Use sunscreen daily, and avoid tanning or sunburn. Treatments cannot be performed on sunburned or recently tanned skin.
- Hair Preparation: Men should be clean-shaven 24 hours before treatment. Mark areas such as beards or mustaches to prevent unwanted hair reduction.
- Avoid Irritants: Discontinue using retinol, tretinoin, glycolic acid, salycilic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and astringents at least seven days before treatment.
- Reschedule if Necessary: Postpone the therapy if you have a cold sore, fever blister, canker sore, or shingles.
- Medication Considerations: Let your provider know what medications or supplements you are taking, including Accutane®, which requires a six-month waiting period after stopping the drug.
- No Makeup: Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin on the day of your treatment.
- Medical Conditions: Notify your clinician of all medical conditions, allergies, or skin concerns to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Laser Facials Post-Care Instructions
- Gentle Cleansing: Clean the treated area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh products for at least 24 hours.
- Moisturize: Apply an emollient to maintain hydration and support healing.
- Sun Protection: Continue using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least two weeks.
- Avoid Heat: Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and intense heat exposure for 1–2 days after treatment.
- Makeup: You can apply mineral makeup right after the treatment, but avoid other types until any redness subsides.
- Monitor Skin Reaction: Redness is normal and typically resolves within 24 hours. Contact your provider immediately if you notice blistering, excessive redness, or swelling.
- Follow-Up Treatments: For best results, schedule your laser facials at 2–4 week intervals, completing an average of 4–6 treatments.
